Polaroid Big Shot: buy the right specimen.
Known for its distinctive fixed-distance portrait workflow and association with Andy Warhol; that link does not authenticate any individual camera.
Film and real-world operation
Designed for discontinued peel-apart pack-film types. Modern stock, if available, is scarce and may be expired or expensive; do not imply new ordinary film is available.
When to walk away
A functional shutter does not guarantee that usable compatible film can be bought.
Eight checks before you bid
Inspect rigid plastic case for cracks, missing handles and broken hinges.
Check fixed-focus positioning aids and viewfinder for alignment.
Inspect lens for haze, fungus and physical damage.
Test shutter mechanism and flash attachment arrangement where practical.
Inspect peel-apart pack-film rollers and back for corrosion, damage or missing parts.
Confirm film door latch and counter operation.
Check availability of flash consumables and the original accessories.
Do not pay shooting-camera prices without an honest film supply plan.
Ask the seller for evidence
Hello, I'm interested in your Polaroid Big Shot. Could you send recent photos of the exact camera, serial/model markings, and the lens and film compartment? Has it been film-tested or serviced, and can you describe any faults? In particular, please confirm: Inspect rigid plastic case for cracks, missing handles and broken hinges; inspect lens for haze, fungus and physical damage. Please include what is actually included, any return terms, and the full shipping cost. Thank you.

Search current opportunities
Live eBay search results change. Look for a seller's own photos, exact item number, included accessories, tested functions and return terms.
This page is an independent collector guide, not an offer to sell an item we own. Illustrations are not accurate reference photographs. Marketplace searches can contain mismatched listings; check the exact specimen, seller and terms yourself.
01 / Its place in history
Why collectors care
Released in 1971, the Big Shot was an intentionally unusual portrait camera. Its composition and fixed-focus approach made a distinctive kind of one-person studio photography possible without an elaborate kit.
Andy Warhol adopted the Big Shot for commissioned portrait work. Moving forward and backward to bring the subject into focus became part of its practical ritual, sometimes called the Big Shot shuffle. A famous association does not mean any individual camera was owned or handled by Warhol.
Collecting the same model is different from owning an item used on a famous production. Look for documented provenance if a seller claims something more than model identity.

Inspection checklist
The right questions vary considerably between a silent-era cine camera and a still-film SLR. For this model, begin here:

Best approached as a collectible design object unless you have independently sourced compatible film and a workable shooting process. No currently manufactured mainstream film should be assumed compatible.
03 / Market research
Find an example, not an invented price
These searches open independent marketplace results. There is no claim that a particular camera is currently available or in working order.
